When I started developing the illustrations that would become the Lonesome World tarot I was in a very isolated place emotionally, and as I worked my way through the major and minor arcana, the outer world shifted inward in the face of a pandemic. Omitting the figures from the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith imagery and imagining a solitary landscape was a way of processing this isolation, and I found that it opened up space to focus on the raw feelings that were present within each card. It became a visual representation of the shift to internal processing and the wisdom of intuition. The idea of lonesomeness isn #39;t intended as a negative state of affairs, but as freedom to check in with your feelings in an honest way.
